Scholarship for Future Saints

The Scholarship for Future Saints Program is a college scholarship created to assist Catholic students with college expenses. Funding is provided by Cape Fear Deanery Catholic Parishes, Supporters, and the local 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Msgr. Dennen Assembly 2017. Scholarships are awarded to local parish Senior Year High School students enrolling in a Community College or University for the upcoming 2024-25 academic school year. Winners will have demonstrated identifiable service to church, school, or the community, and academic proficiency. The $10,000 in scholarships will be allocated: $5,000 Gold Award, $3,000 Silver Award, and $2,000 Bronze Award.

 Recipients will be determined by a nominated board of Deanery parishioners and members of the KofC Assembly. Funds will be made payable directly to the recipient’s higher education institution where attending designated for benefit of the student’s account no later than August 15, 2023. To be eligible the applicant must: 

1) Be a practicing Catholic registered in a Cape Fear Deanery Parish.

2) Submit required documents consisting of:

a) Fully completed attached Scholarship for Future Saints application form.

b) A typewritten autobiographical statement, no more than 2 pages in length, that speaks of applicant's: (1.) Church, school, and/or community service, (2.) Career goals, and (3.) Academic achievements

c) A written research essay on the life and spiritual transformation of a Catholic Saint (or Blessed individual in steps toward canonization). The essay is to include a summary of how the Saint’s life calls you to lifelong spiritual development (similar to future career or ongoing professional development). The essay must be 700 words minimum in length with a bibliography of at least 2 resources used in research noted.

d) Official high school transcript obtained from applicant’s high school principal / counselor  and enclosed with the application form. (If applying by e-mail, send transcript to the e-mail address below.)

3) Be accepted for admission and enrolled at an accredited Community College or University.

Note: scholarship funds are made payable directly to the College or University. Funding must be returned to the Cape Fear Deanery if the recipient fails to attend or withdraws from the Fall 2024 academic term.

The deadline for applications is May 30, 2024. Applications sent by U.S. Mail must be postmarked on or before that date. Applications sent by e-mail must be received by 11:59 PM on that date.
